Factors of Baby Beds Lifespan

Types of Mattress

What is your baby's mattress type? As the mattresses lifespan depends on the mattress type. Is it innerspring or a memory foam mattress? If the memory foam mattress has low density then it tends to wear and tear very soon causing indentations also it will lose its supporting capabilities more quickly and shape. Indentation poses a suffocation risk and to an infant, it can be life-threatening. On the other hand, the innerspring mattress tends to last longer but you should pay careful attention to the coils whether it’s an adult or crib mattress. Over time the coils might tend to lose its durability. It's time to replace your innerspring if this happens.

Durability

When you purchase a crib mattress, something else to consider is - what type of cover it’s made of. How durable a bed will be is depends on the materials used in the mattress and construction. Over time a thin cover will lose its integrity. Try to choose a strong material thicker cover.

Waterproof Capacity

Accidents happen a lot. If any vomiting, urine, blood, get to the mattress itself, it’s going to shorten the lifespan of a mattress. And it can cause the growth of harmful bacteria. A non-waterproof mattress has less lifespan than a waterproof mattress. To prevent liquids from seeping in get a waterproof protector.

Stain Resistance

To extend your crib mattress life, get something that resists discoloration of the mattress. Some are pre-treated fight stains. You have to clean a waterproof mattress more frequently and need to be extra diligent in using if yours isn’t waterproof.

Care and Maintenance

To make your crib mattress last longer you need to be proactive in this department. You can do three things:

- As soon as the accidents occur clean it. Don’t let the accidents soak in bed.

- To prevent any liquids from spills invest in a protective cover.

- To prevent the buildup of any unwanted materials clean the mattress regularly.

You can ensure that your bed lasts for years by following these three steps.

Storage

Proper storage is important if you’re thinking of giving it away for someone else to use or you want to use the same mattress for a second child. From moist environments keep the mattress away. Avoid sunlight and direct heat. In a temperature regulated, a dry environment wraps it its original box or store it in a plastic box.

On a wide variety of factors, the lifespan of baby mattresses depends. You can control the factors as a parent. For about five years a crib mattress designed to last. But if you’ve been proactive with care, it will increase the lifespan and if the mattress lived a hard life it will decrease.
